Lookin Round

Lookin Round was written during the months when my family and I were preparing to leave New York after a decade and move to semi-rural France. It was a time of anticipation and excitement but also tremendous wistfulness. For the second time since I moved out of my childhood home, I was completely changing my life, my environment, and leaving behind so many things and places and people. These songs were born out of that heady mix of feelings and rumination and expectation.

The record was almost fully self-produced and recorded with epic assists from Erik Mendola (guitars), Zack Albetta and Roger Baldowski (drums), and Carter Giegerich (dobro and mandolin). Musically, Lookin Round is a raucous orgy of crunchy guitars, rich harmonies, and the best lyric writing I’d ever even attempted up until that year. Thematically and personally, it’s a clearing of the throat, of sorts. Embracing who I was for so many years but freeing up the mind to move forward.
